Divorces surge in March, says study

A recent study has found that it is incredibly common for couples to wait until after the holiday season ends before filing for a divorce. Often, married couples have a wealth of reasons to postpone separations during the holidays. Many parents wait to announce a divorce so as to spare their children the association of holidays with big changes. Other couples consider finances to be a major factor, as the Christmas season put a strain on most people’s accounts that takes several months to recover from.

December has always been the month in which divorce cases fall to their lowest numbers. They then start to rise in January, with the overall tally peaking in March.
